Schwarber Thrives in Big League Call-up

Kyle Schwarber, the Cubs 2014 first round pick, has been optioned back to the Cub’s triple-A affiliate in Iowa. Although a demotion from the big leagues to the minors is usually seen as a regression for a young player, for Schwarber this is a promotion which is what Igor Cornelsen says. After spending a few games with the major league club as the designated hitter during interleague play, he will head to Iowa where he looks to be the primary catcher.

Schwarber was promoted last week from double-A Tennessee after dominating that level offensively. The Cubs felt that his ability not only warranted a promotion to triple-A but also a brief stint with the big league club—acting as their designated hitter in interleague play. During his time with the Cubs, Schwarber hit .364 with a homerun and a triple—great numbers for someone drafted only a year ago. He heads to Iowa hoping to continue his success with the bat and improve his defensive skills.
