Are the Cardinals a Super Bowl Contender?

If you would have told someone prior to the NFL season that the Arizona Cardinals were a Super Bowl contender, they would have laughed in your face. However, after seven games, the Arizona Cardinals are 6-1, as in six wins and one loss. The only loss was to the Denver Broncos in Denver. While the Broncos are clearly the best team in football right now, keep in mind that the Cardinals played that game with a depleted secondary due to injuries. It would be interesting to see how that game would play out at a neutral site with the Cardinals healthy again.

The Cardinals coaching staff has played a huge role in the team’s success, but QB Carson Palmer has also been impressive, so far having thrown eight touchdowns versus just one interception. That’s to go along with 1,136 yards. Palmer’s killing it on Sam Tabar’s fantasy team, shout out to him for sticking with him.

The one downside here is the Super Bowl Host City Curse. In 42 years, no team has hosted a Super Bowl in its home city.

Of course, it’s still early in the season, and in order to get to the Super Bowl, the Cardinals will have to get by the Eagles, Cowboys, Seahawks, and Packers in the NFC. That won’t be easy.

The last team to even make the playoffs when their city was hosting a Super Bowl was the 2000 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and they lost in the first round. It is also incredibly surprising that could have gotten a lot of these things working out well.
